National Academies Committee on Solid Earth Geophysics Spring 2025 Meeting: Advancing Marine Geophysical Sensing for Solid Earth Exploration
Event
Date(s)May 28, 2025(12:00 - 16:00)
Venue:Online
This National Academies Committee on Solid Earth Geophysics will hold a meeting to highlight emerging technologies that advance monitoring and characterization of subsurface geological processes from the seafloor and water column. Topics may include seafloor observatories, distributed acoustic sensing, dense nodal arrays, electromagnetic and gravity sensors, and mobile autonomous systems. The session aims to provide researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers with a concise overview of current capabilities and future directions in marine geophysical sensing.

The Committee on Solid Earth Geophysics serves as the focal point for community discussion and community-agency interaction on issues related to the structure, dynamics, and evolution of the Earth. Its mission is to encourage understanding of Earth structure, dynamics, and evolution; review research activities that contribute to federal agency missions in seismology, geodesy, and geodynamics; address the transfer of seismological and geodynamics knowledge to areas of public welfare and national needs; foster long-term national efforts to collect, store and disseminate related data; and foster long-term national efforts to monitor geodynamical events and nuclear testing treaties.
